Quick answer

For the first Seafaring treasure, follow the quest's oil-rig-area scanner clues and use the fishing rod at the indicated spot. This route is supported by player reports and a community reading of the quest dialogue. It is not an exact coordinate map or a verified full Seafaring walkthrough.

Read the current objective, follow the scanner and then use the rod at the quest spot.

Make sure you are on the right objective

The community quest reference distinguishes boat exploration, returning to Salt Pete, finding the first treasure and fishing it up. Check your journal's current wording before circling the oil rig. Discovering a district is a different step from recovering a treasure.

When the first-treasure search is active, read Ava's scanner explanation if it is offered. Keep enough fuel for the trip; the refuelling guide covers a reported nearby stop.

Search, then fish

  1. Approach the oil-rig area while following the active objective.
  2. Watch the scanner. Two launch-era player replies describe yellow pings and a fishing target/circle near smaller rigs.
  3. Use the current marker to choose where to cast. Aim the line into the marked water instead of continuing to fish random nearby spots.
  4. Check the obtained item and journal before assuming the objective is complete.

The player direction “left of the oil rig” depends on the approach and is not a compass coordinate. Marker appearance has changed with patches; follow your current UI rather than relying on one launch screenshot's color.

Why do I only catch fish or junk?

The official October 2/5 notes mention a treasure-marker change and a conflict between treasure spots that blocked progression. They do not establish an exact cast distance or a guaranteed fix for every save.
